What is Nonwoven Fabric?
Nonwoven fabrics are neither woven nor knitted. Instead, textiles that have been created through a process of bonding fibers together in the form of a mat, either by some kind of chemical adhesion, mechanical or heat treatment, or a combination of those.
Out of all the ways, Spunbond is one such significant way of manufacturing unwoven materials. The fabrics are made of synthetic fibers such as Polypropylene (PP) or Polyester (PET). PP Spunbond is widely applied in various industries with the features of single-used and durable. Nonwoven fabrics provide specific functions such as absorbency, liquid repellency, resilience, stretch, softness, strength, flame retardancy, washability, cushioning, filtering, bacterial barrier, package protection, and sterility.
These properties are often combined to create fabrics suited for specific jobs, while achieving a good balance between product use-life and cost. They can mimic the appearance, texture and strength of a woven fabric and can be as bulky as the thickest padding. Various Embossment of Patterns
Driven by creativity and innovation, Embossed Nonwoven Fabric offers a unique combination of aesthetics and performance. The embossing process takes place where the fabric passes through the machine’s heated spindle roller with engraved patterns.
These rollers apply heat and pressure simultaneously, imprinting specific patterns onto the fabric material. So that the nonwoven fabric with a visually appealing and tactilely engaging texture can also serve functional purposes.
Product Features for PP Spunbond Nonwovens

The fabric can prevent the ignition or inhibit the spread of flame, when get burnt, the fire will be extinguished within 3 seconds naturally, complying with the CFR 1633, BS 5852 or TB 117.

With UV stabilizers/absorbers agents as additives, the fabric has protection against sun rays, which helps to extend the service life of the fabric. Durable and resistant to the UV exposure.

Neat edges of non-woven material do not fray or unravel as woven or knit fabrics, extending product lifespan, which is ideal for furniture upholstery, towels, mattress padding, linings etc.

Anti-Static nonwoven fabric is made with combination of anti static additives to dissipate all the static charges. It gives synergistic & long time effect to the finished products.

Manufacturing Process for Spunbond Non-woven Fabric
When it comes to nonwoven fabrics, it is not manufactured by weaving or knitting and do not require conversion of the fibers or filaments into yarns. Nonwovens are web structures that are bonded together mechanically, thermally fusing the fibers, they are special kinds of fabrics that are mostly single-use disposable or very durable fabric, which are used in numerous end applications such as medical, hygiene & health care, garden, agriculture, furniture fabric, luggage, packaging and many other fields.
Nonwoven manufacturing is simply a continuous process in which web laying and web bonding are two major operations that are performed in several sets of consecutive machines. With decades of years’ expertise in the production of nonwoven fabric for different industries, we can simply divide the Nonwoven Fabric Manufacturing Process into steps of below:

Let’s illustrate this process by using the example of the production line demonstration

- Raw material Chuting: 100% PP (Polypropylene) and various additives like color masterbatch are used as the raw materials. Here in Hongpeng, we have Quality Assurance from original Raw material with suppliers as ExxonMobil, Sinopec and PetroChina.
- Hot melting & Extrusion: Here, extrusions include spunbond (or thermal-laid), melt-blown systems. The raw materials are melted in an extruder at a specific temperature (When it comes to PP, the temperature needs to be higher than 165℃). The molten polymer is then pushed through spinnerets with thousands of tiny nozzles to create fine filaments.
- Filtering & Measurement: this step is crucial for fabric grammage control, precisely adjusting the weight & density to ensure the stability of the filament’s uniformity and product quality.
- Filament quenching: as the filaments are extruded, they are cooled rapidly using a steam of cool air. This step involves precise control of the air intake speed.
- Stretching/Drawing: the cooled filaments are stretched or drawn using high-speed airflow. This step increases the strength and reduces the diameter of the fibers, spunbond fibers typically have a diameter in the range of 13-17 μm.
- Web formation: the drawn fibers are laid down on a moving conveyor belt to form a continuous web. The fibers can be randomly oriented or directionally laid for specific applications, particularly done by parallel lay, cross-lay, and perpendicular-lay processes. Here in Hongpeng, we have developed Germany & China combined technologies classical textile carding or air-laying machines that separate and orient the staple fiber mechanically for the creation of a fiber web.
- Thermal bonding: the web is thermo-bonded using heated rollers to form a final spunbond nonwoven, which involves: Passing the web through heated rollers with engraved patterns. These rollers apply heat and pressure simultaneously, causing the fibers to mold into the desired pattern; Adjusting the temperature, pressure, and roller speed to control fabric properties like grammage, softness and strength.
- Finishing and treatment: The common finishing process is slitting and winding for all nonwoven fabrics that are produced in roll form. Here in Hongpeng, we apply various finishing treatments to enhance fabric functional performance of versatile properties for different end applications. Performance properties basically include functional characteristics such as moisture retention and permeability, absorbency, repellency, flame retardancy, electric response, and friction behavior like abrasion resistance or anti-pilling. Aesthetic properties deal with various characteristics such as appearance, surface texture, patterns, color, and odor.
- Slitting and rolling-up: The spunbond nonwoven fabric is scanned by real time monitoring cameras for quality control before being rolled onto shafts in large jumbo rolls, and subsequently slit into the required smaller width rolls and packed according to customer requirements.
Conclusion:
Nonwoven fabrics may be manufactured by various techniques, but all generally include steps like web formation, bonding, and finishing steps. Currently, Polypropylene and polyester is the leading fiber used in nonwovens. That’s all for the journey of our non-woven products born.

Color masterbatch plays a crucial role in the pp non woven fabric manufacturing industry, serving not just as a means to dye color to the fabric but also as a solution to enhance functional and aesthetic value of the product. Hongpeng offers various Pigments to customize the non-woven fabrics for different end applications.
Based on Pantone color chart, our R&D team place this compound through a number of rigorous tests to ensure that each PP non-woven roll product we manufacture is of superior quality in terms of Fastness, Natural appearance, eco-friendly etc.

Grammage, also known as Weight, means GSM (grams per square meter), quantifies the weight of a nonwoven fabric. Hongpeng non woven fabrics ranging from 8~300GSM.
- The correct and precise basis weight is crucial for ensuring both functional quality and economic advantages. We provide ideally balanced product via adequate and rigorous testing.
- Some of our clients prefer the measurement by oz/yd² (Ounces per Square Yard). To convert from oz/yd² to GSM, use the formula: GSM = oz/yd² * 33.906, which means 1 oz/yd² is roughly equal to 33.906 GSM.

Hongpeng non-woven supplies any weight/color combination on request for widths between 10mm to 3200mm in lengths from a minimum of 20m up to 10000m (depends on the grammage weight).

The roll diameter determines how many tons of one container’s loading capacity as well as clients’ further processing machines handling mating.
